Chihuahua Effect
There's no reason to continue to live in fear of what I call the Chihuahua Effect, where you've got this tiny number of very vocal, annoying people. I mean, I did a poll on Twitter, where I said "If you have an issue between gender and sex, and you have two groups that could adjudicate it, where one is gender studies, and one is biology, who would you trust?" Well, 50% of the comments are like, "Oh my god, you don't even get the difference between gender and sex," "You're so offensive," "You're so backward," "Thanks, Grandpa,"', blah, blah, blah. Also comments about my hair, which I really don't understand. The only thing is, is that 50% of the comments didn't correspond to the 60,000 people who wrote in, where only 5% of them trusted gender studies over biology, right? So this is the whole thing, which is that you're living in a gaslit illusion.

Assume that the fields of Gender Studies and Biology came to disagree on a matter of gender/sex. Which would you be likely to believe more?
Well, here's what I would recommend to the people who traffic in the "outrage porn", as you're calling it. That's a relatively small community, but it's very noisy. So I call it this the Chihuahua Effect. The Chihuahua Effect is a very, very small group of people making a tremendous amount of noise, making you think that they're enormous. Alright. So for the tiny minority of people who have nothing better to do that than to try to take down people who are trying to be constructive and trying to think through these sorts of things, you have to talk to them in the exact language that they speak.

@EricRWeinstein just listened to your live podcast with Sam Harris. comedian @owenbenjamin compares the immunologically naive to indoor cats too. pretty hilarious.
Yep. I just wrote to him about this. We are finding many of the same objects: Pachellbel, indoor cats, etc... I was just telling him about the Chihuahua effect and he sent me a link...because he had already done a bit on it. It's tough when someone is as keen an observer as OB.
FINAL RESULTS: the incredibly loud, scary & aggressive group, harassing, threatening & disparaging anyone who dares question their simplistic version of events in Gaza is not having nearly as big of an impact as they desperately want you to imagine.
You can run this poll yourself:
Curious to see what beliefs people are operating under that differ from my own.
