What is the current project?

The GWT project is one of the many projects Eric has assigned to this group. It stands for Graph - Wall - Tome, which are three key artifacts in the physics community. To find out more, check out #gwt-project

What other projects are there?

There are too many projects to list here, ongoing ones include transcribing and adding references & sources to each of the episodes of the podcast. Check out #projects for more information.

When does Eric come in here (to the Discord)?

Eric comes in most days, he seems to not mind us.

Why can't we have a channel for every topic under the sun?

With over 2000 members, there is always discussion going on. Having a channel for every topic would quickly get out of hand and push us away from focusing on projects. If you’d like to talk about non-portal and non-project related subjects, you can do so in the #general and #off-topic channels.

Why are there limited voice channels?

Some of the members here find it easier to have discussions in small numbers, and Eric also enjoys having smaller conversations sometimes. Moderators may pop in and out to make sure the discourse is healthy, and will actively avoid trying to move conversations to larger channels to not break the flow of conversation. We must learn to not treat every conversation here like a precious resource, and instead like the rooms in a house. This includes conversations with Eric.

Where should I start?

I only hold a bachelors in mechanical and electrical engineering, but have been an armchair physicist ever since i was 13 and shed the WooWoo skin my peers were strapping on in the form of James Redfield's "Celestine Prophecy" series. It was then that i got ahold of a book called The Elegant Universe and was like, "Oh! Magic IS real! it just doesn't have anything to do with mysticism and New Age-ey BS. My field is climate control, which i was fortunate enough to be able to leave (suicide was the other option at the time, it seemed) before the plague to pursue a musical project as well as some physical ideas. I've got the plans drawn up for a real beauty in the way of an exhibit that communicates this idea of "not only unseen, but UNSEEABLE, for the act of observation- no, the VERY PRESENCE and/or EXISTENCE of an observer makes it this way. You are on the right tack, Mr. Weinstein. And if you're insane, then fuck it let's at least go down swinging.

In a bizarre twist of fate, as it were, I think the following quote says it very well. (Sigh...here goes...lol)To quote [character from Waking Life, a brilliant Philosophy 102 class in cinema form written/directed by Richard Linklater]: "We saw it ['lay down, G.I.; Lay down, G.I.!'] all through the 20th century. Now in the 21st century it's time to stand up and realize we should not let ourselves be crammed into this rat maze! We should not SUBMIT to dehumanization! I don't know about you, but I'm concerned with what's happening in this world!
