Strategic Silence
The concept of âstrategic silenceâ in journalism is fascinating. You take something of direct importance to the public that would sell papers because everyone wants to read about it...and then you quietly fail to report because of potential consequences:

This is how the game is played. People donât get that the entire REASON 9/11 conspiracies exist is that we canât admit that some things are not well understood. I donât believe in a 9/11 conspiracy theory. I do believe we have a building collapse for which we lack a good theory.
Then the pressure will start âYou are feeding lunatics!â No Iâm not. You are the ones *starving* lunatics. And thatâs far more dangerous you idiots. This is from the current Wikipedia article on Building 7âs collapse. Can we not say âThatâs odd.â Or âThatâs weird.â Well, why not?
Look at the carnage of the â08 financial crisis. I was told I was feeding panic from 2002-5 when I claimed I didnât understand how mortgage backed securities gave rise to the banishing of volatility given the opacity of the products. So guess who caused the crash? Me & math guys!
I mean really??? You get the physics guy @overbye at the @nytimes to write a story to deflect from the actual people who put the world at risk?? Itâs so good!! You people in the institutional world still have no idea why you got @realDonaldTrump elected.
Itâs the universal lies.
This is the DISC:
Donât ask your questions.
Donât admit you donât understand.
Donât question experts.
Donât listen to heterodoxy.
Donât associate with iconoclasts.
Donât befriend the other party.
Donât criticize your own fringe.
Donât self-promote.
Donât be gauche.
Die silently.
Okay. I caused the 2008 crash together with my colleague @EmanuelDerman. I caused @realDonaldTrump to win because I said during the election what @donnabrazile said after the election. And if you havenât noticed the US STEM system may collapse.
Put it on my bill with xenophobia!
At some point however, you may want to try a new hypothesis: the institutional system is obviously fake & getting faker. Rather than lathering on the cosmetic bullshit until you become Tammy Faye Baker, you might want to just say: âMaybe we have a universal authenticity crisis.â
Iâve been trying to help. I try to tell you that your âStrategic Silenceâ theory is breeding lunatics. Your demonization of normal Americans is courting fascism. Your rent-seeking pig-out at the trough invites communism.
Or just call me Alex Jones. The choice is yours.
Weâve been here together multiple times before. You want to go again?
Who knows maybe youâll win again? But itâs late in the day & your old magic isnât working as well as it did. Look at the Oval Office you fools.
We know each other so well:

Be well.

@EricRWeinstein in as few characters as possible, what is the DISC?
Always a thousand times more eloquent, Dr. @EricRWeinstein
@MsMelChen @boony_t I wish I came up with âstrategic silenceâ Miss Chen, but Journalism, Statecraft, and Public Relations seems to have beaten us all to this gem.
Cars don't randomly attack Germans at HIGH SPEED at Christmas Markets. Just like Trucks don't attack the French celebrating national holidays.
What was the car's motive?
My heart goes out to all those targeted in what is all but certain to be an act of *Anti-Christian* terror.
@C_Midd77 This is the issue of style guides and their doctrine of âstrategic silenceâ.
