2010Edit

Oh man. @DARPA_news claims there is a US geek shortage. Uh...Do they know it has authors? Circa 1986? By @NSF? Jointly with NAS via GUIRR?

8:59 PM Ā· Mar 31, 2010

Recommendation to @DARPA_news: request all internal docs written by @NSF economist Myles Boylan. Some are undated with no attribution.

9:03 PM Ā· Mar 31, 2010

2018Edit

I don’t mind @Noahpinion making this wrong argument as a neo-liberal political activist. Just not as an economist, an expert, or an academician.

Because heā€˜s certainly aware that this hasn’t been a free lunch. It’s designed as cryptic wealth transfer:

https://ineteconomics.org/research/research-papers/how-and-why-government-universities-and-industry-create-domestic-labor-shortages-of-scientists-and-high-tech-workers

5:55 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Skilled immigration is basically a free lunch for America. A native-born kid costs lots of $$ to educate. All those public school dollars, all that college tuition!

Whereas a 22-year-old skilled immigrant basically appears out of nowhere, fully educated and ready to work!

4:32 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

As an economist, expert, or academician, I would be obliged to read and heed the empirical research on the topic! http://www8.nationalacademies.org/onpinews/newsitem.aspx?RecordID=23550

You are actually playing stupid? That’s mind blowing. You should be well aware that the NAS who you cited is the CENTER of the market manipulation. That is, you are citing the bad actor as impartial judge! Who do you think is behind the collusion Noah??

It’s NAS. Read my paper.

6:02 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

The National Academy of Sciences report draws on the research of academic economists, and they made sure to get a wide variety of economists to contribute (including George Borjas!).

There is no vast conspiracy at work here. Just evidence.

6:04 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Woah. Am I supposed to be afraid of the @theNASciences?? And social scientists? I quake in my boots.

Sit down my son. The NAS has invited me on at least four occasions to explain this ā€˜conspiracy’ to them. They have thanked me for it, paid my expenses, & never challenged it.

6:19 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Pops, no one is buying it. The NAS isn't a conspiracy. Skilled immigration isn't a plot. The research is real. Smoke a J and chill out.

6:21 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

No one is buying? Other than the NAS itself who bought it when they invited me and gave me a standing Ovation. Then invited me to their COSEPUP committee and reacted in horror. Then invited me back to address their GUIRR committee. Etc...

So the NAS bought it. But do keep going.

6:29 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Here's a paper by Peri, Shih, and Sparber, finding that skilled immigrants raise wages for the native-born: http://giovanniperi.ucdavis.edu/uploads/5/6/8/2/56826033/stem-workers.pdf

Are they conspirators too? ARE THEY ALL IN ON IT, ERIC??

6:31 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Not following you into another meaningless briar patch. You can contend with my paper. I’ll wait.

6:32 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Fortunately, research shows that skilled immigration boosts the wages of skilled and unskilled native-born workers alike.

National Academy of Sciences report --> http://www8.nationalacademies.org/onpinews/newsitem.aspx?RecordID=23550

Therefore it is not a cryptic wealth transfer, but a policy for broad-based prosperity!

6:01 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

And @Noahpinion cites the National Academy of Sciences, which, as home of the Government-University-Industry-Reaearch-Roundtable (GUIRR), is named as the epicenter of the cabal to lower the wages of American Scientists using visas.

All detailed here: https://www.ineteconomics.org/research/research-papers/how-and-why-government-universities-and-industry-create-domestic-labor-shortages-of-scientists-and-high-tech-workers

6:13 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Let's not degenerate into wackaloon conspiracy theories, Eric. The NAS report cited a wide array of academic economists who study immigration (including George Borjas!).

6:16 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

Wackaloon?? Ha. You’re devotion to authority is adorable.

But, don’t make me laugh. I’ll stand alone. Go get your army of economists ready to take apart my historical paper. I’ll wait....as I’ve been waiting for about 20 years.

6:24 AM Ā· May 29, 2018

I have my disagreements with Noah Smith but this stuff from EW just seems bizarrely conspiratorial tbh

2:43 AM Ā· Jun 2, 2018

Fascinating. You do realize I’m quoting the actual secret study done by NSF/PRA/GUIRR? I mean, you are aware that this was already a scandal investigated by congress before I found the study and dissected it?

Are you challenging anything substantive? I didn’t catch it if so.

9:24 AM Ā· Jun 2, 2018

2020Edit

Folks are going to struggle processing the reasons for my anger. Let me explain:

A) There were & *are* such cabals: GUIRR, AAU, NAFSA, NSF, NAS, APLU, etc. They got going later than was discussed on this episode.

B) I’ve been ringing this bell since the ā€˜80s. This is way late.

9:31 PM Ā· Apr 13, 2020

To be fair, they were decrying the policies set in motion back then. Their impression is that it looks just like the work of a nefarious cabal — but there was obviously no such cabal. That would be crazy…

8:24 PM Ā· Apr 13, 2020

So I agree that this 2020 podcast is saying this is appalling. But this is almost 40Yrs after this problem became visible and these voices were NOWHERE to be heard! When we said this in 1987 or 1992 we were vilified. So yes, this is better than most. But that bar is too damn low.

9:31 PM Ā· Apr 13, 2020

And lastly, I have been in multiple conversations where professors of economics and/or finance have *literally* laughed in my face explaining how great our system is for them at the expense of younger students using exactly these concepts like barriers to entry: The joke is real.

9:36 PM Ā· Apr 13, 2020

H1-b visas come out of a secret 1986 economics study by the Policy, Reaearch & Analysis division of @NSF through the GUIRR division of @theNASciences in a scheme to tamper with the wage mechanism so that scientists would slave for a market in which they wouldn’t participate. šŸ™

4:28 PM Ā· Oct 6, 2020

Listen to the scientists.

2021Edit

EVERY single top research university in the US in EVERY STEM field is used by CCP.

I don’t understand the shock. The Erich Bloch & Peter House at @NSF via the GUIRR coordinated the giving away of our US STEM advantage just to save US employers $ in 1986:

This was written more than 20 years ago. It has sat on the NBER server for 20 years. No one reports the story.

https://users.nber.org/~sewp/references/archive/weinsteinhowandwhygovernment.pdf

There is no press. No outcry. There is just a freakish silence that has been unbroken for almost 40 years. We gave it all away to the CCP.

6:23 AM Ā· Apr 24, 2021

Don’t blame China. The US STEM leadership conspired against our own people just to save a few bucks. Of course PRC used our idiotic leadership against us.

No one will talk about this paper. Try it! No one challenges it yet no one reports the claims made within it? Still amazed.

6:23 AM Ā· Apr 24, 2021

35 years after @nsf ā€œPolicy Research and Analysisā€ conspired w/ NAS Government University Research Roundtable to sell out STEM-America.

I’ve been on this over 30 years. Is it finally happening? I doubt it.

Why? B/C it’s the *entire* STEM labor system.

https://www.newsweek.com/over-500-us-scientists-under-investigation-being-compromised-china-1586074

4:58 PM Ā· Apr 25, 2021

And here is a prediction. After we gut all of our advanced math and science, we are going to have a huge employer sponsored push to flood STEM markets with workers from abroad who were not subjected to ā€œDiversity and Inclusion(tm)ā€ re-education. Genius.

https://t.co/i3JaCRe0xu

4:58 PM Ā· Apr 25, 2021

2022Edit

In 1986, the @nsf secretly commissioned a study of future wages. It projected salaries of over $100K back then for new PhDs.

I’m not making this up: it called that ā€œThis pessimistic scenarioā€ and erased the demand curves to try to flood the market via IMMACT90.

Come: Debunk me.

7:13 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

The @nsf conspired AGAiNST the scientists. With whom? The National Academy of Science through the Government University Industry Research Round Table (@GUIRR). I have been invited four times to the NAS to present this. It is an out and out conspiracy.

Debunk this claim @snopes.

7:13 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

This account has > 1/2M followers & is spreading a wild conspiracy story that the US science establishment destroyed US STEM careers through market tampering. It’s housed at @nberpubs & @INETeconomics. It sews distrust in science & government. Debunk me @APFactCheck, @PolitiFact.

7:13 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

This is echolocation: listen for the silence. They will not debunk me. Why? Because it’s true. Come at the conspiracy theory @NSF & @theNASEM. All you have to do is cry bullshit, and we are on!

Let’s have some fun. You are, after all, our most prestigious science institutions.🧬

7:13 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

In the meantime, younger STEM PhDs, please don’t be angry or disappointed. Why not take the long years of cutting edge training at tax payer expense & visit @PandaExpress, where fast food can put you on the fast track to success & financial freedom! šŸ™

So nuts. #followthesilence

7:13 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

As you know: no one will report but no one will debunk either. Welcome to the Boomer/Silent Generation distopia.

I still can’t get over that we don’t have a functioning free press. Thanks.

7:16 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

*dystopia

Also, feel free not to give a shit as we mask up injecting ourselves and our families against a virus that likely comes from the same exact people with almost no independent secure PhDs to stand up to the gerontocracy at @NIH, NIAID. That’s the cost of cheap science.

7:33 AM Ā· Feb 12, 2022

For the nth time:

The US Scientific Labor Market has been totally & deliberately rigged from 1986 on. As in completely ā€˜fixed’.

For whom? Employers/PRC/Boomers.

By whom? @theNASciences, GUIRR, AAU and @nsf.

Against whom: Scientists. Science. The US.

What will happen next? You’ll read this story. You’ll scratch your head ā€œNeeds PhD for 0 compensation??ā€

Then a few days later you will read another story about how the US is falling behind in STEM and the workplace of tomorrow needs H-1B visas & technical skills.

2024Edit

I highly recommend learning about the history of where H-1B came from before getting emotionally invested in it.

It was born as a labor tampering conspiracy against American scientists headquartered at the @theNASEM (GUIRR) & @nsf (PRA) under Erich Bloch.

Posted this later, as an example:

8:55 AM Ā· Dec 29, 2024

"A growing influx of foreign PhD's into U.S. labor markets will hold down the level of PhD salaries to the extent that foreign students are attracted to U.S. doctoral programs as a way of immigrating to the U.S."

2025Edit

Is this what you mean by ā€œAmerica Firstā€? Ha ha.

A Patriot would kill this evil program, assess the transfer of wealth over 35 years and pay reparations to America’s brilliant scientists & engineers who we systematically lured, misled, discarded and economically raped.

Pussies.

4:32 PM Ā· Nov 14, 2025

🚨BREAKING: President Trump for ANOTHER WIN. The haters are FURIOUS!

Labor Secretary CONFIRMS that the administration is going FULL FORCE to SHUTDOWN all H-1B visa fraud and put American’s FIRST!

2:22 PM Ā· Nov 14, 2025

Everyone who says ā€œAmerica needs the best and the brightest!ā€ needs to close their mouth and open their wallets, minds and hearts in that order.

We are a market economy. We have a wage mechanism. On your next flight from Van Nuys to Teterboro: use it. Stop looking abroad.

Americans Scientists and Engineers are pains in the ass if you are looking for employees. We aren’t really employee of the month types. Duh.

We are in a totally different idiom. We are badly behaved, maverick, cowboy science types. You aren’t serious about the best brightest scientists and engineers if you are in the bargain aisle looking for lapdogs, yes-men, employees and indoor cats.

End the war to capture the value created by scientists and STEM workers. Let them capture their own immense value again.

They made you rich. They made you secure. Time to return the favor.

4:42 PM Ā· Nov 14, 2025

Return the Borjas Rectangle stolen by @theNASciences, GUIRR and @NSF.

The intellectual godfather of H-1B is @myles_boylan. None of you even seem to know this.

Myles, let’s continue the conversation. In public. You started this. Let’s end it.
