Senescence
Today would be an excellent day for serious science journalists to honor George Williams & write an honest piece on the senescence industry.
Are you a journalist looking for great minds to profile that happen to be female? @LauraDeming has been âSan Francisco Famousâ at least since she showed up as a 16YO true expert on senescence. Her scientific mind is great on science policy & history. I believe she has no degrees.
Sheâs also one of the nicest kindest and most intellectually uncompromising people Iâve ever met. She never makes me feel stupid so I have been learning from her since she was a teenager. Letâs start promoting such people within our national science complex. Degree or no degree.
@brevityisthesou Ed doesnât make me feel stupid. But he still terrifies me. There is smart and their is Witten-smart. Iâve only me one of his kind.
If you are an expert or near expert in radical longevity and senescence, Iâd recommend applying to do this with Laura Deming.
This needed to include @CWGreider as codiscoverer of telomerase. A co-laureate, and thus a bizarre omission.

The secret lies in our telomeres and the enzyme telomerase which was first discovered by Nobel Laureate Elizabeth Blackburn and affects the way our cells age.

For those who will make the point about Jack Szostak. No. He was not a codiscoverer of telomerase. I am making a narrow point here as many people are involved in the senescence story.
