Thinkquisition
Thinkuisition, n: illiberal purge of liberal 1st-principles thinkers via communalism, language, personal intimidation & identity politics.
It seems to me that "Tecquisition" rolls off the tongue better. Same idea, though.
TechCarthyism, n.: A movement using mainstream tech-platforms to socially engineer thought-level compliance to a radical political agenda through Star Chambers (e.g. "Trust and Safety"), Shadowbans, Show-Trials (court of public opinion), Deplatforming & Uneven Enforcement of ToS.
I had forgotten that Eric already coined the term "Thinkquisition". I guess TechCarthyism it is, then.
Just to be clear: TechCarthyism is (*so-far*) a particular form of LeftCarthyism used to carry out the Thinkquisition. But it could conceivably be used by a right leaning platform against the left. McCarthy was, of course, conservative.
I‘m not aware of that having occurred yet.
I replied to this tweet noting that this list was entirely composed of white libertarian or neoreactionary men and that this does not suggest balance. I mentioned some thinkers I would recommend, but later realized this put me at risk of tokenizing their outstanding work.
Huh? I am on this list. Not neo-reactionary or libertarian.
Perhaps a better way to put it is libertarian, neoreactionary or uncategorizable but run heavily in the circles of the first two categories relative to any other categorizable thing within our society.
That sweeps a corpse under the carpet though. When you say "uncategorizable" for 'thinking left' or 'traditional progressive' you excuse the censorious Left. I've called it the Thinkuisition as the Libertarian and center Right welcomed the thinking Left from the expulsive Left.
I really don't mean to target you, and I accept whatever self-characterization you want and would ask for the same myself, so withdraw how I characterize you. However, I think it is fair to say the list is quite homogeneous along a variety of dimensions
In the Inquisition, the Jews of Spain were chased by the Spanish Inquisition into, say, Turkey in the Ottoman Empire. My claim is that a lot of analytic lefties have been chased into the center right by the madness of these progressive lunatics, and that thing I'm calling "The Thinkquisition" is that people who are worried about, you know, homophobia or xenophobia, and all these things, but don't for a second sign up for the progressive, revolutionary sort of pseudo-Maoist agenda, those people are now hanging out as if they were in Turkey, even though their home, you know, was originally in the analog of Spain. The center right has become the Ottoman Empire to receive people chased out of the madness of Spain.
